How are these salaries calculated?
The figures come from the Swiss Earnings Structure Survey (ESS) by the Federal Statistical Office, the official reference for wages in Switzerland. We show the median (the central value: half earn more, half earn less) and the usual range between the 25th and 75th percentiles — more meaningful than an average skewed by high salaries.
The ESS publishes wages by major region, not per canton. A canton page therefore shows the value of its major region. The actual salary also depends on experience, education, company size and industry — treat these figures as benchmarks for your negotiation.
