Teaching, research, jobs, events: the University of Fribourg is a space for innovation and an important driver for the economic and cultural life of the region. The Faculty of Theology at the University of Fribourg is characterised by its bilingualism and its anchoring in both the French-speaking and German-speaking worlds. Thanks to its European network and doctoral candidates from around the world, it enjoys an international reputation. We are looking for a personality ready to consider cultural and religious changes in Switzerland and Europe as an opportunity, to advance exegetical research within the Department of Biblical Studies while respecting its tradition, and to explore new paths creatively. Applications must be sent electronically by 15 September 2026 to the address decanat-theol@unifr.ch Applications must include the usual documents: Curriculum vitae, diplomas, list of publications, list of courses taught (if applicable with proof of teaching skills or teaching evaluations) Description of completed, ongoing and future research projects A maximum of three published books Copies or extracts of up to five articles or contributions representative of research in the field of the position Your tasks Teach courses in the Old Testament Develop research activities in the areas of the chair Promote scientific succession Obtain external funding for research Actively participate in self-management and work within the committees of the department, faculty and university Engage in scientific cooperation, continuing education and joint projects of the Department of Biblical Studies and the Dominique Barthélemy Institute Collaborate in teaching and research within and beyond the university Disseminate knowledge in dialogue with society Desired profile Doctorate in Catholic theology (or canonical licence in Catholic theology and doctorate) Habilitation in the field of the position or equivalent publications Scientific publications in the field of the Old Testament Ideally, experience in obtaining external funding Excellent university teaching and didactic skills, willingness to teach online and in continuing education Courses are taught both in person and online. Pedagogical and technical support is available for the development of the latter option Ability to lead and supervise collaborators Aptitude for cooperation and teamwork The University of Fribourg is bilingual (French/German). Knowledge of the second language (oral level B1) is expected.
