Job Description Purpose • Provide technical leadership for a particular product or capability within the Process Technology (PT) environment, holding the chemistry and process know-how for assigned chemical steps. • Lead the local technical team in the development, introduction, and support of chemical processes for new and mature intermediates and/or active substances, in close collaboration with WMU and Global Process Technology. • Drive improvement plans for chemical processes to increase capacity, improve quality, and reduce costs, while troubleshooting process issues (leading cost and process learning curves). • Support process relocation projects to external suppliers or other manufacturing sites, and coach junior chemists. Accountabilities General & HSE: • Ensure that the manufacturing process is safe and compliant with legal and internal HSE rules at all times. • Ensure process design meets the requirements of company and national HSEQ and regulatory standards (e.g., Chemical Reaction Hazards, PRA, Management of Change). • Define, plan, and control laboratory work, semi-technical, and full-scale plant trials to develop and test new or improved manufacturing processes. • Lead programs of scientific work, defining individual tasks and technical designs within complex, challenging projects. • Store project data electronically and compile technical reports to record and share experimental results. • Actively participate in local and global technical networks to share knowledge and stay connected with other Syngenta sites (CHMU, GBJH, etc.). Production Support: • Define key process parameters and design control strategies to ensure they remain within safe and optimal limits. • Provide proactive technical support and troubleshooting to manufacturing plants to restore or improve production performance. • Deliver technological recommendations to improve plant capacity, production costs, waste reduction, and energy consumption. Supply Chain & Project Support: • Understand supply chain requirements and take a leading role in delivering objectives (acting as the Technology Lead for specific Active Ingredients (AIs) when required). • Lead the technical transfer of manufacturing processes to third parties (outsourcing) or other Syngenta facilities in coordination with the Technology & Sourcing Manager. • Provide process chemistry expertise to supply chain and project teams, collaborating closely with Process Engineers. • Participate in the commissioning of new or modified plants as part of technical start-up teams. Qualifications • Education: MSc or ideally a PhD in Chemistry, typically with post-doctoral experience. • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience, ideally with NAIS and AIP knowledge. • Technical Expertise: Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and good knowledge of industrial-scale manufacturing processes. • Process Safety: Solid understanding of process safety, reaction hazards, electrostatics, and environmental issues. • Change Management: Detailed knowledge of systems for process change and their potential implications on product quality (formulation, regulatory, etc.). • Business Acumen: Awareness of costing systems and the financial impact of PT development work on Supply Chain performance. • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to work autonomously, lead complex technical projects, and coach/train junior colleagues.
