Description du poste

Join the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, part of the ETH Domain. This role is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative environment. Tasks Investigate airborne snow metamorphism effects on polar snow. Develop model equations for snow microstructure and isotopic signals. Conduct simulations to assess energy and mass balance impacts. Skills PhD in atmospheric sciences, physics, or related field required. Expertise in numerical modeling and data analysis needed. Programming skills and good English proficiency essential. The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 600 people, of whom 180 work at SLF in Davos. The Research Unit «Snow and Atmosphere» investigates snow and its interactions with the hydro- und atmosphere across different scales, with the aim to improve our understanding of the role of snow in the climate system. Within our Snow Physics group, we are looking for a In a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), we are investigating the impact of the newly discovered process of airborne snow metamorphism (ASM) on the physical properties and isotopic composition of polar snow. In this 2-year PostDoc, you will develop and implement new model equations describing the evolution of snow microstructure and isotope signals during wind-driven snow transport. Parameterizing these processes based on laboratory and Antarctic field data and integrating them into the coupled atmosphere–snow model CRYOWRF will be a central part of your work. You will perform advanced numerical simulations to quantify the impact of ASM on the isotopic composition, energy and mass balance of polar regions and collaborate with international project partners to publish results in scientific journals. You hold a PhD degree in atmospheric sciences, physics, environmental engineering or a related field and have expertise in numerical. Experience with snow or climate models, data analysis, and process parameterization is highly desirable. Good programming skills are expected. Excellent English skills are essential, German skills are beneficial. You enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team at the interface of experiments and modelling. If you are interested, please send your application, including a 1) motivation letter, 2) CV, and 3) educational transcripts to Clemens Güdel, Human Resources SLF, through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered. Benjamin Walter, phone +41 (0)81 4170 367, will be happy to answer any questions or offer further information. WSL is committed to diversity and inclusion as core values. We actively promote equality and foster an open, inclusive work environment. Flüelastrasse 11, CH-7260 Davos Dorf Website Company-Video
