Presentation The Engel lab offers a laboratory technician position in microbiology at the Department of Fundamental Microbiology, University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Job information Starting date : Sep 1, 2026 or by arrangement Length of contract : at least until Sep 1, 2027 Work percentage : 70-100% Workplace : University of Lausanne, Switzerland Your responsibilities The Engel lab conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of animal–microbe interactions and microbiome science. We investigate the interactions between gut bacteria and honey bees by combining experimental microbiology and insect biology with genomics and bioinformatics to uncover the mechanisms underlying host–microbe relationships and their ecological and evolutionary significance. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented research technician with experience in experimental microbiology. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects focused on characterizing the interactions of individual bacterial strains and microbial communities with their insect hosts, assembling and analyzing complex communities in vitro, and processing samples for sequence analysis In addition to experimental work, the technician will play a key role in laboratory management. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory, helping to manage procurement of supplies and reagents, and supporting the smooth operation of daily lab activities. This dual role offers an opportunity to engage in hands-on research while contributing to the organizational and operational efficiency of the lab. Your qualifications We are looking for a candidate with following qualifications, experience and skills: •    An apprenticeship certificate (C.F.C), a Bachelor of Science or an equivalent or higher degree •    Working experience in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, insect biology or in a related field •    Experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, or bacterial culturing •    Good time management and multitasking skills •    Be capable of working independently and in a team •    Work with carful diligence •    Knowledge of oral and written English, Knowledge of French is desirable •    Highly motivated and willing to learn new techniques •    Strong personal drive for scientific research, a curious nature, and the capability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a growing interdisciplinary team What the post offers you You will join a highly motivated interdisciplinary research group focused on understanding gut microbiota–host interactions using an innovative research model.
