The institute fosters dynamic collaboration among biologists, engineers, and data scientists, bridging the gap between academic and pharmaceutical research. Closely associated with Roche-s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), we partner with leading academic institutions both locally and globally to address grand challenges with bold, innovative science.The OpportunityThe position is raised as part of the initiative to establish a Data Analytics platform in IHB, referred to as A-IHB. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Image Analysis Data Scientist to work at the interface of exploratory academic research and process innovation in a leading Biopharma company. You will join the Institute of Human Biology (IHB), collaborating with scientists and engineers to design and implement computational pipelines and frameworks for the analysis of large-scale and time-resolved 3D imaging data.Your work will enable quantitative readouts from complex human model systems and directly support biological discovery. Working in a fast-paced research environment, you will contribute to the advancement of next-generation human model systems, analytical pipelines and open-source software tools used by the broader bioimaging community.You will work closely with experienced data scientists and software engineers, receiving guidance while progressively taking ownership of your projects. For efficient interactions with collaborators you will work primarily onsite. You will be responsible to:Apply and adapt state-of-the-art image analysis methods to solve biologically relevant problems in collaboration with IHB scientistsDesign, implement, and validate scalable image analysis pipelines for terabyte-scale 3D imaging datasetsTranslate disease biology questions into quantitative computational workflows with guidance from senior team membersContribute to codebases following best practices in software engineeringProactively communicate progress, results, and challenges to collaboratorsContinuously expand your expertise in image analysis, computational biology, and scientific software developmentPresent results to interdisciplinary audiences within IHBWho you areAdvanced degree (PhD or MSc with relevant experience) in computational sciences, computer science, electrical engineering, or related fieldsProficiency in Python and familiarity with relevant scientific and visualization frameworksExperience with modern software engineering tools and methodsBackground in designing scalable solutions for high-performance computing or cloud environments is a plusProficiency in concepts of Computer Vision and related methods in Deep LearningProficiency in data analysis and statistical methodsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audienceTeam player with the ability to also work independently and proactivelyCompensation & BenefitsThis position also offers an attractive benefits package.Learn more about how we reward our employees at Roche.Who we areA healthier future drives us to innovate.
