Profile The Structural Xploration Lab is seeking a new research collaborator with a PhD in building technology, preferably in the field of building materials and/or building envelope performance and/or building renovation. The candidate must be familiar with contemporary construction techniques and have an interest in 20th-century construction techniques or vernacular architecture. Experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or computer programming is a plus. A master’s degree or professional experience in architecture is preferred but not required. The employment rate varies between 80% and 100%, depending on the candidate’s availability. This is a 9-month contract, renewable. The earliest start date is May 1st or as soon as possible. Missions The main research activities will be related to the characterization and circular performance assessment of building envelopes in Europe, with a scope ranging from construction details and building archetypes to large-scale inference of building stocks. The project is embedded into a EU-Horizon project in collaboration with foreign industrial and research partners. The candidate may also contribute to other research and teaching activities as well as to the supervision of architecture students at bachelor’s and master’s level. About us The Structural Xploration Lab is a group of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in architecture and civil engineering. It is known for its development of tools, design methods, large-scale analyses and built prototypes aimed at enabling the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector to adopt more circular load-bearing systems. SXL also contributes to teaching building technologies and circular practices to undergraduate, master’s students and professionals in architecture and civil engineering.
